Our Mission

Our mission is to provide relief and rescue for animals in the Bahamas through compassionate care, ethical adoption practices, and community education. We are committed to building a world where every animal is cherished, nurtured, and given the chance to thrive. Together, we’re making a lasting difference—giving these incredible animals their second wind and a chance at a healthy happy life.

Founder and Executive Director

I have always been a dog lover. In fact, I have always loved all animals. My parents will tell tales of me trying to convince them to bring home potential pets that I would ‘surely’ be capable of caring for at age 3 or 4. I liked to dream big, what can I say? Wisely, they denied the endless requests until I was a bit older and could reach the faucet to at least fill a bowl with water. That little girl has grown into an adult who still adores animals and who has an affinity for all things canine related. Having traveled quite a bit both domestically and abroad, I have personally seen the need for dog and animal care and rescue. It’s heartbreaking to look into the empathetic eyes of dogs and other animals who despite horrible conditions, still look to humans for love and care. I was no longer able to ignore something so tragic when I knew I could do something to help. Thus, Second Wind has come to be. I’m so proud of what we have started, and what we all hope to build. I’m so grateful for the volunteers and board members who have agreed to join me on this journey. They donate their time and energy to a task that is never ending. Despite the challenges I know we will continuously face; I clearly see the chance to make a difference and give the animals of the Bahamas we serve their second wind.
